Lumbini is the place where Siddhartha Gautama was born in 563 BC. Therefore it is the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site. It lies in the Rupandehi District of Nepal. Gautama, who achieved Enlightenment some time around became the Gautama Buddha and
His philosophy is followed by the people who recognized themselves as Buddhists and the philosophy is known as Buddhism. The main Temple in Lumbini is the Mayadevi Temple. In 1997, Unesco recogised this place as one of the World Heritage sites. People who visit Lumbini also aim to visit other pilgrimage site of Buddha like Kushinagar, Bodh Gaya and Sarnath.
Lumbini lies in a peace and calm surroundings. Government of Nepal is building an International Airport near Lumbini so that international tourists can be attracted. This is a place to be visited at least once in our life time.
