Punjab, Kashyap, Trivedi Da Fan Purana

Anurag Kashyap wouldn’t have put in his bucks just like that. Udaan and Shaitaan are perfect examples. AKFPL, a co-producing banner here, can obviously be banked upon for good cinema. After some whacky lineage of films, now, with this Punjabi family drama, Kashyap just widened the horizons of how we see makers like him. Though not an ounce of the typical Kashyap cinema, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana is good, slice of life cinema.

A movie that only a handful will end up seeing and of course not everyone would just love it straight, I saw it on Day 8 with 6 people in the auditorium, all because I had followed the soundtrack, the promos and the banners and they were promising. But, to all those who know what Amit Trivedi is capable of doing with the background score in a Punjabi setup, the soundtrack is enough a reason to watch it in the cinemas irrespective of any other fact that may change your mind, be it the rather unheard of first time director Sameer Sharma or the low profile casting. The music is easily the best thing about the movie, only second to the fact that the soundtrack takes the screenplay forward smoothly enough, which in turn never loses the gas in the 135 minute run except for a couple of moments in the second half.

Yes, holidays are up and you probably have nothing better to do or watch before 13th, the D-day for the biggies. Here is your excuse to go out with old friends back in your hometown on the pre-Diwali days.

For the unbelievably realistic dialogues, bulls-eye of a casting, interesting script-connects garnished generously and the ever so charming Punjab-da-ik-pind setup, LSTCK makes for an immensely watchable affair.

It is worth your buck and most probably, it won’t stay at the theatres come 13th November. Carry lesser expectations, like you might have done with the other two films mentioned in the beginning of this write-up and you would least regret.
