Lux ad Sux

Lux - the name derived from the word ’Luxury’ has a history of its connection with the charismatic leading ladies of bollywood!!..Be it Leela Chitnis (their first indian brand ambassador) or Juhi/Kareena..Its the only brand that has featured a total of 50 actresses.

But inspite of all this, Lux doesnt go well with the general junta (maybe too starry for the multitude!!).

The hard fact is that soap doesn’t sell and has been losing its ground..

In order to celebrate their 75th year in India, Lux had to do something special/different. Instead of bathing another lady/model with their soap, they roped in King Khan to endorse the brand!!

Its HILARIOUS to see SRK in a topless scene (hairless chest..nipples exposed!! oops!!), in a bath tub (with lotus petals all around) saying ’Aaj mein aapko batanewala hoon meri khubsurati ka raaz - LUX’’

My first reactions were::’’This must be some sort of MTV bakra’’!! Hello? men and beautiful? Has SRK gone too hungry for monie?? (Kareena charged around 2 crores for Lux ads, now you can imagine $RK’s fee!!)

HLL’s Logic behind the ad

---------------------------------------------

According to HLL, SRK’s hairless chest will attract far more eyeballs (female’s) and motivate/inspire the ladies to grab one..!! (soap and not anything else!!)

According to them, actresses in bathtubs dont attract the female population (and instead attract the males who dont use the soap!!) and hence a ’sexy’ male (with feminine touch, i.e. hairless chest) appears to be a far safer bet.

What makes me wonder is that will the female population buy this soap because SRK has endorsed it? Well, I am not too sure..!!

Ladies, please comment!

If one were to follow HLL’s logic, all male/macho ads (like bikes/baniyan/ etc) should be done by females and not males-- since guys won’t watch guys!! ( unless they are gays??)

Now thats funny!!.

Ideally, I would have expected the ad makers to show SRK’s biggest traits..i.e.his charisma to promote the soap and not the strict-adherence-to script!!

HLL’s need for ’being different’ has resulted in an ’indifferent’ ad - which doesnt appeal either of the sexes!!

Only time will tell whether the ad does any magic to lux’s falling sales or not..!!

For SRK, it must have been a good experience considering the fact that he started his career in a ’soap’ opera!! and has been with too many ’bubble(y)’ phases!!
