Memories..

I still remember the day before Diwali in 1993, when I was waiting in the admission line for my turn to come. Admission process in that year was delayed and it was almost end of October, when finally they decided to start the college. High court had given deadline to the University and they had to finish admission process before the day of Diwali. I was waiting in the admission que since morning 5 am and waited almost till 2 am (next day) to get my turn. When I entered the room, the choices were innumerable but I had decided to take up Civil Engineering. Only college that had Civil Engineering open, was M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) which stood third after RV College of Engineering and BMS College of Engineering and I took admission in that college after standing for almost 22 hours in line.

When I went to the college and started talking with people, I was shocked. MSRIT was famous for ragging and for other stuff than studying. There were couple of police cases against some students for ragging. Also I found out that there are mostly three groups in the college. Bihari, UP?its and local Kannadiga groups and always there is fighting going on between them. I was not that scared but was trying to figure out the reasons for all that. But as the collage has started late, all the courses were going at full speed and without any extra time wastage. Also, because of that, there were less ragging problems and also that year, the maintained strict rules and regulations.

Last year when I visited India, I went there again and met my professors. They were happy to see me and I was enjoying every moment remembering old times. I noticed that ragging problem had become negligible and student had become more serious. Campus is kept neat and clean than before and newer courses have been introduced. I was glad to see such positive improvements in the campus.

About the College

MSRIT came into existence in 1962, teaching only Mechanical and Electrical Engineering then. Slowly other fields got introduced and today, they have following branches:

  1. Civil Engineering

  2. Mechanical Engineering

  3. Electrical & Electronics Engineering

  4. Electronics & Communication Engineering

  5. Chemical Engineering

  6. Computer Science & Engineering

  7. Industrial Engineering & Management

  8. Instrumentation Technology

  9. Information Science & Engineering

  10. Telecommunication Engineering

  11. Medical Electronics

  12. Architecture

All the branches offers Bachelors degree (B.E.), while Civil, Mechanical and Computer Engineering also provides Master’s Program (M.Tech). As per discussion with my professors, it seems in next couple of years, college will be ready to provide Doctorate Degree (PhD). Currently MSRIT is ISO 9002 certified and maintains strict teaching standards.

Not only that, MSRIT has a very good canteen and also encourages sports. It has a very big sports complex and free for all students. Also, it has a very good Library (where I hardly went during my 4 years of study) and is open till late hours so that students can study.

Also, from my professors, I came to know that Gokula Foundation (MSRIT is a part of GF), which was founded by M.S. Ramaiah soon will apply for its own University as it imparts education to various fields like Hotel Management, Medicine, Business etc. Currently MSRIT is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, which was previously known as Bangalore University.

I am glad that I studied in such prestigious Institution.
