Maatr

The first trailer of Raveena Tandon’s much-awaited comeback film Maatr debuted online on Thursday. The almost three-minute long trailer looks bold, intense and moving, and shows daring-mother Raveena like we’ve never seen her before.

Raveena’s character fights for justice after her daughter Tia is raped, highlighting the failure of Indian judiciary ( and society) to deliver justice in crimes against women. Watch the trailer of below

Directed by Ashtar Sayyed and written by Michael Pellico, the revenge thriller shows the 42-year-old National Film Awards winner take the law in her own hands, after her husband persuades her to move on. She files a complaint, post which her husband is beaten up and forced to take back the charges.

The gripping trailer ends with: “While you were watching this trailer, a girl was raped somewhere in the country.’

Shot in Delhi, which infamous for crime against women, and Haryana, Maatr also features Hasan Malik, Madhur Mittal, Divya Jagdal, Shailender Goyal, Anurag Arora, Saheem Khan and Rushad Rana. It is scheduled to hit the theatres on April 21.

Maatr highlights Delhi as the rape capital of India.

Raveena was last seen in a cameo in 2015’s Bombay Velvet, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anuskha Sharma and directed by Anurag Kashyap. After Maatr, she will star in Onir’s film Shab. The movie also features Arpita Chatterjee, Ashish Bisht, Simon Frenay and Areesz Ganddi in key roles
