This is the story of Anu (Bipasha Basu) who looses her sister in the 9/11 crash in the world trade center. It takes her a long time to recover from this shock. She is an arts student.
Two years later, Anus parents introduce her to Arpit (Priyanshu Chatterjee), a celebrated ad film-maker. Anu and Arpit are drawn towards one another and get engaged subsequently.
After the engagement Anu is supposed to go for an arts assignment to a hill station. There she has a stange encounter with Aman (John Abraham) who she sees is running away from some people behind him with guns. Amans gun is left in her hands while hes running and then later on pesters Anu to return his gun to his home. Anu gets to know that Aman is a member of an anti-terrorist organization. Enamored by Amans purpose in life, Anu falls in love with him.
She sees that Aman doesnt have a comfortable life..like he drinks beedi instead of smoking a cigarette, doesnt have a washing machine and so she manages to send him cigarettes through a vendor and even purchses a washing machine for him and asks not to tell who has gifted them.
When it is time for marriage, Anu refuses to marry Arpit. She tells her parents that she is in love with Aman but on reaching Amans house she finds it to be locked and is told that the house hasnt been open since the last 10 months. The Cigarette vendor also tells that he couldnt deliver the cigarettes since the house had been locked and the same is with the home appliances shop who couldnt get the person to deliver the washing machine. She does not believe anyone and slashes her wrists in protest. Anu survives and it is revealed that she suffers from schizophrenia.
What is this Schizophrenia- its a condition where a person can see someone and interact with a person they like. Since Anu had a bad time coming out of her sisters death news, its shown that she has started imagining for a person who works in an anti-terrorist organisation.
What happens next? will Anu be cured of this disease? Will Arpit accept the changes in her? Is there a real Aman?
Bipasha, as a patient of mental trauma plays her part well.
Priyanshu chaterjee still needs some practice in the field of acting. His performace was good in his first movie only. Choosing wrong movies has led to his let down!
John Abraham too deserves a mention for his portrayal of Aman. His screen presence and the credibility with which he plays Aman add vitality to the film.
Till the first half, the movie seems to be going well but by the second half, it disappoints. Madhoshi is a promising attempt by first time director Tanveer Khan, but it still fails to impress because of some unimaginative writing.
Particularly, the climax part is actually made fun of!
The climax is not up to the mark and is more kiddish than you can think. But it is a story different from other bollywood stories. First attempt of bollywood to make a movie on the 9/11 attacks and its impact of a family of 2 of the victims.
Overall, the movie is average. Worth watching just once and that too when you got nothing else to do.
