I guess Magarpatta was on one of the first planned Townships in Pune. The construction of this township started sometime in the late eighties, early nineties. The construction is still going almost 20 years later. The concept and design is good. There is an oxygen zone in the center, around which are the business towers and these in turn are surrounded by Residential buildings. The township invested heavily on the beautification of the place. There are jogging tracks, walkways, an inland with water sprinkler system. Wat it lacks is the quality. The township probably has spent a lot more on beautification than on the quality of construction.
One can hear straight from the horses mouth(in this case the residents) Crooked walls, leaking roofs and walls are a regular feature. One would think with such a big township, adequate attention would be paid to security. No such luck. Security personnel are present at every nook and corner. But they look bored and have no real interest in their work. Anyone can walk in and do a recce and they wouldnt know it. Bags are given a cursory lookever by the security personnel. 9 out of 10 times, you will find the security personnel on their cell phones chatting and/ or gossiping away to glory.
The construction activity seems never ending. The dust, the pollution and the noise seems to be going on forever. This is one project that will probably take another few decades to see it completion.
