Well, it's not gourmet, but who's complaining??

Anyone who knows anything about me will be aware that I am very fond of food. Every detail from its preparation to its consumption is a source of interest to me.

I like fresh ingredients and prefer traditional cooking methods - when possible ? (I still haven?t convinced my parents to set up a clay oven in the backyard so that I can make Tandoori chicken without the aid of red dye). Nonetheless, there are moments in ones life when one is completely incapable of creating a dish that requires more then 5 minutes of preparation.

It?s times like these when a humble 20x15 cm yellow packet with the emblazoned words ?Maggi 2 minute noodles? seem like a god send.

Many a late night I have come home to a sleeping house ? not wanting to disturb the peace by demanding food too loudly, I simply open the pantry door and there, as though the light waves make a direct trajectory for my yellow packaged friends, my two minute noodles fill my field of vision.

Okay ? back to reality. These dehydrated noodles are not exactly gourmet, nor do I believe Jamie Oliver will utter the word ?pucka? upon tasting them, however they are a simple, cheap snack/light meal. And another thing, you don?t have to have the chef styling technique of Ainsley Harriet to prepare this baby.

All right ? guys, want to make your family/wife a surprise snack? This is what you do.

1) Toss a few packets of Maggi 2 minute noodles in to you shopping trolley next time you go to the supermarket. This is a very important step -> don?t miss it !!!

2) Boil 2 cups of water for every packet of noodles in a saucepan. If you have trouble with this step, consult the nearest aunty. While waiting for the water to boil, it might be useful to call the nearest pizza take away place just in case the ?cooking? doesn?t go quite according to plan. I find praying is also useful!

3) When the water is boiling (big bubbles keep erupting on to the surface of the water) add the cakes of noodles. Be sure to remove the plastic yellow packaging it comes in.

Please Note: When water boils, it is very hot. Do not touch this hot water.

4) Empty flavor sachet into saucepan, (flavor sachet comes is the small aluminum thing inside every Maggi 2 minute noodles packet ? the shiny thing that is not noodles), and allow the mixture to simmer for two minutes. (simmer means to turn the knob on the stove in such a direction that makes the bubbles in the pan smaller ? but does not extinguish the flame)

5) Serve up your culinary creation in a bowl and deliver it to loved ones with flourish and gusto. Smile modestly while they all complement your newfound talent for cooking.

There ? I hope I have added the details that Maggi forgot to put on the packaging! Now everyone can make it! To be honest, I don?t make my noodles like this ? I use the microwave. Still this is the ?traditional? Maggi method~

What I have mentioned above is the simplest form of Maggi 2 minute Noodles you can create. But as we all know, every cook is an artist (some abstract cooking artists scare me ? went to a really suave restaurant where my date ordered me ice cream with black bean sauce for desert, I kid you not!). However let your imagination run wild when cooking with Maggi and see where your creativity takes you.

A common camping favorite, these two minute noodles can be turned into a meal by adding a handful of mixed veggies into the noodles while simmering ? makes it a bit more filling. Adding some fried onion to the noodles gives this meal some extra texture, but if your feeling a bit gourmet, but really can?t be bothered making something really gourmet, try this. Mix some sweet chili sauce into the noodles and top with scrambled eggs and fried onion ? yum! And it is also very filling!

Maggi comes in a variety of flavors ? Oriental, chicken, beef, masala and vegetable just to name a few. You will generally find that the name given to the flavor of the a particular packet is no real indication of the flavor you are going to get, but at least you know which one you like ? ie. the flavor that is labeled chicken ? I will guarantee it does not taste like chicken, but you might like it nonetheless.

These noodles are not exactly the tastiest food on the market, but considering it is very simple to make, quite filling and very cheap, these noodles really are not that bad. They are a bit fattening so I don?t recommend you eat them regularly, but for the occasional hungerbuster, or quick meal substitute, you won?t go far wrong with Maggi 2 minute noodles!

Tell me ? do I sound like I?m from the Maggi advertising agency?
