First off, this is a voluntary service and is not required by law to have.
Now, if youre like me and thought it might be a good idea to have this additional service please be aware of the repercussions in case you cant pay the monthly fees anymore.
If you fail to pay they will eventually send your information to a lawyer which causes your late bill to balloon to levels way beyond the original amount due. After a while, if the extortion fee is not paid they will be forcing their way into your home and take whatever they deem appropriate to recoup the balance due. How can my personal belongings be held as collateral for a bill due for voluntary service?
I can understand if I fail to pay my car bills or mortgage since the financed item is considered collateral, but how can a voluntary insurance policy be held to the same standard?
The best part is this, if you decide to cancel your policy then youre required to pay the monthly fee until the contract ends which could be over a year past your cancellation date. Hows that for great customer service?
In the end, Ive learned a very valuable lesson. ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT AND NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH A COMPANY LIKE HDI.
