Are you longing to visit a hill station? Not thought of which one to visit?
I will guide you about Mahabaleshwar.I know that there are many online sites to browse for information. But is anything better than first-hand information?
If you just said no, then read further.
DISTANCE: This hill station is at a distance of 220kms from amchi Mumbai. If you are starting from Pune, a distance of 120 kms will take you to this heavenly place. In terms of speed, owing to the mighty ghats, traveling by car was as much as 7-8 hours. But thanks to the new {not so new} expressway Mahabaleshwar is 4-5 hours away from my city.
THE NAME:The name Mahabaleshwar, according to many sources is derived from a mythological incident. Mahabali, in those times was a big-time demon and aspired to kill
Our gods. He was killed by Lord Shankar, due to which his {mahabali’s} boon of immortality was all-finished. But lord Shankar named this place Mahabaleshwar to fulfill
his {mahabali’s} last wish.
THE SIGHTSEEING: Sight seeing in this hill station is in the form of points.22 points, all exotic! Arthur’s seat, Sunset point, Baghdad point are a few of them. But be sure that you are of the active type because these points asks for up and down restless walks and then if you don’t really admire nature what’s the point of so much exertion? I recommend that you skip a few points as many of them repeat the same exotic view
{Unless you’re a nature-freak}.
OTHER MUST-VISITS:
1.BOATING:Boating in the Venna lake is a favourite activity among all visitors.
Be it the pedaling boat or the rowing I can assure you of a lovely ride. But the only problem in this lake is that of crowds! If you go in the peak –season days and that too at peak hours you have to wait as long as an hour for a ride. Frustrating, isn’t it? So avoid the peak hours at least if peak days are unavoidable.
2.STRAWBERRY GARDENS: Hey, this is one of the exciting parts of the outing!
Imagine picking up strawberries from the gardens and relishing fresh strawberry ice cream and juices made in front of your eyes! These dhaba-kind restaurants also serve snacks. I would recommend corn pakoda here. How I wish I could tell you the name of the dhabha but the dhabha didn’t have a name. My mother even picked up fresh vegetables from these farms. All I can tell you is that this garden is near the famous BRIGHTLAND resorts.
3.SHRI SHANKAR MANDIR: Remember I told you about that story? Bhagwan Shankar’s temple is situated here. On the head of the MAHALINGA there are marks of the five holy rivers, namely, Krishna, Venna, Koyna, Savitri, Gayatri. These rivers join and finally flow out of the Goumukhi cow face spout. Drinking this holy water is considered auspicious. Apart from the auspicious part, this water gives a cool, soothing and heavenly feel.
4.EATERIES: On the outskirts of the Venna Lake, there are many chaat counters. But if you are from Mumbai or elsewhere I am sure you wont go to Mahabaleshwar for eating {except for hoggies like me}. Note this but…Strawberries; Raspberries and Mulberries are the delicacies here. I can’t imagine myself visiting Mahabaleshwar and not having these fruits. I also don’t miss out on Corn Pakodas..Umm…my mouth is watering now…I would surely recommend Rajesh hotel for a delicious Gujju thali.Pizzas, Pavbhajis and burgers are not to be tried out at Mahabaleshwar.Dear, try to live without them if you are in this hill station!
5.MARKET AREA:You would catch many youngsters and collegians freaking out here! There is just a lot to shop here. A large… really large variety in shoes attracts the customers here. A few video game parlours are seen here and there.
6.RESORTS:There are many resorts to suit everyone’s taste and budget. I would recommend Brightland resorts to everyone who wish for a comfy and luxurious stay.
The Regal and suman motel resorts are also good.
If you are not used to cold climates please carry cardigans and sweaters. Especially for kids {like me}, its good to keep them safe from the cold.
