A bar cum restaurant in Dumdum area

Maharaja is located on Jessore road, a popular bar cum restaurant in DumDum. I had a chance to visit this place with one of my friends staying in Dumdum. We planned earlier to go to Park street for a week end party, but we had to cancel this plan due to late hour work and we landed up in Maharaja.

Though, this is quite a well known bar cum restaurant in Dumdum, I did not like the ambiance of this place.  My friend was just keen to dine here and I had to go for my friend.

Anyways, once we settled down, we checked the Menu. I noticed the prices and they were quite reasonable compared to my South Kolkata hanging zone, but the place is not much standard or sophisticated. So, I did not like the place to spend long hours!

As we asked  for some fish snacks as a starter, the attending waiter was just insisting us to order fish tikka kabab. We ordered this one and also added my favourite chicken tangry kabab. . Though, the waiter said the fish tikka was made from Vetki, I guess it is made from Bhola fish, a cheaper alternative to Vetki.

The snacks came with in 20  minutes, the taste was just average! I But, comparing the price again, I did not mind the taste! They were OK!

The menu card is quite big and I could see lots of items listed there. For main course, we ordered a fusion. butter naan and chicken lemon, garlic chicken. We wanted to taste these Chinese items with naan. They delivered the order soon. They were good, I must admit it.

Naan was soft and hot, and the both these chicken items cooked properly. I have a keen observation for all these Chinese items, and they have passed in terms of taste and quantity. In fact, the quantity is sufficient enough and we had some extra pieces too. So, it is really a budget restaurant. I could not expect that much quantity for any chicken item in any posh South Kolkata restaurant.

Neeless to say, we ate with our heart’s content. I have also seen some people taking away food stuffs.

Though, the ambiance was always a kind of annoying for me, the food were good in taste. It can not be termed as an elite restaurant, but yes a cheap option to dine in, if you stay nearby.

So, if you are staying near Dumdum, you can give this place a try just for a simple, casual dinner in a clumsy ambiance.

Considering the budget and taste of the food, I am recommending Maharaja for a casual dining experience.
