I personally feel that Indian cricket should be termed as Before MSD and After MSD. The reason that I’m saying this is because Before MSD Indian cricket team never won major titles but after MSD the team kept winning hearts of millions in India and out of India. The best time in Indian cricket was the time when the Indian fans witnessed their cricketing God and the series of titles that they won under Dhoni’s reign. He is also termed as Captain Cool as he is very calm under pressure and doesn’t seem to be panicked by a particular situation.
In his reign Indian cricket team has surely seen a lot of ups and down but the fans were always there to support him. His personality was what made him the leader and the rest is history. We couldn’t win a major title but under his reign we won the 50 over World Cup and T20 World Cup as well. To add to that list we even won the champions league and the way all the players performed was exceptional. We really seemed to be a force which was impossible to be defeated. Under Dhoni captaincy there were many other questions raised as well like how did the likes of Jadeja be included in the squad. How was Raina, Murali Vijay& Mohit Sharma make it to the squad. Much to these allegations all the players did stand up to the occasion and performed.
Coming to Dhoni’s performance, I really feel that he is the best finisher in the world but at times he seems to be quite flat. He can be dismissed to balls that aren’t worth of picking up wickets and that what’s made him retire from test cricket. He got to know that it wasn’t his cup of coffee. And it was good that he realized it quite early that he wasn’t a test material. Hopefully he carries on for a couple of years or maybe upto WC 2019.
In few words if I had to describe him, I would say MSD is a person who is very lucky for Indian cricket, Captain cool and has the potential to handle pressure.
