The company was formed as Mahindra and Mohammad back in 1945.Three years later it was renamed Mahindra and Mahindra.Its varied products have come to be associated with high quality, ruggedness, durability and operational economy.What makes M&M dear to a non-user like me is that its completely indian.Let us consider a few facts about this great indian organisation.Mahindra and Mahindra Limited is in fact the flagship company of the US $2.59 billion Mahindra group.The group has significant presence in key sectors of the burgeoning indian economy.Set up mainly to make general purpose utility vehicles, it soon branched into tractors and light commercial vehicles.The group is involved in manufacture of farm equipment, Information technology, financial services and infrastructure development.M&M has two main divisions.One is the automotive division(light commercial vehicles, utility vehicles and three wheelers).The other is the tractor division making tractors mainly and industrial engines.For many years the M&M name was associated in india with jeeps(GP actually or general purpose).It offers allied products(Bolero particularly) in markets in Latin America and Africa.Finally the ’Scorpio’.This is the car that was created from the ground level by M&M.For such a pioneering achievement, the ministry of Science conferred the company with its National Award.I am proud to be an indian because india has Mahindra and Mahindra.
