I took delivery of my Kinetic flyte from Chennai on one fine sunday morning of June 2008.
Till now I have clocked 20.5K and I am using it for the past two years in Bangalore. I drive around 20Kms average a day. I never drove for long drives, may be it is max 100Kms in a day. I have owned Splendor and Rx 135 during my bachelor life before shifting to flight.
Comfort:
As a family man, I really like my flyte for the comfort it offers when I drive with both my kids (and sometimes with wife too). It has enormous torque and I never felt it is straining itself even while driving upstream. Its suspensions are very good that I never lost control while hitting pot holes tho the base of vehicle scratches on the speed breakers many times.
The enormous storage space under the seat, and the space between the seat of front hood is very good to hold lots of shopping items too. The vehicle is very stable and under full control when I drive with my family as I nvr exceed 40kmph, and I go upto 55 when I am alone. The larger wheel radius and the tyre width gives more stability, and I never found as if losing balance. But when I exceed 55, I feel the vibrations, and instability. After all, I cant expect more from a scooter.
The front fuelling makes me feel like it is a bike when I go to petrol bunk. This is a great plus.
Mileage:
This is the pathetic part. She never gave me more than 35. Sometimes it even went as low as 25. I got totally disheartened and stopped measuring it. But when I hv the tyre pressure correct, and service it regularly then she offers 35. Though I have mentioned it to servicing people, they never could fix it.
Instruments:
I wish the petrol level indicator work perfectly. Its value changes depending on the speed of the vehicle ;( But I fuel it once the needle touches the Red mark. Definitely the needles movement is not proportionate to the petrol level.
Reliability:
In my 3.5 years of association with the vehicle, she never let me down except for once. It was due to carbonated spark plug which was fixed by a local mechanic.
Sometimes I see that however high I set the speed of idling, it will stop. I hv to hold the accelator to keep the engine live in heavy traffic. But when it happens, then I understand that it is time for service. I service it regularly once in 4 months.
The battery is a very big plus. It never let me down till now (even in early mornings @ BLR in less than 25C she never refused to start).
My flyte was leaking petrol when I fill the petrol tank till its brim. Latter on the dealer himself replaced the tank saying that it is manufacturing defect. I see that the service folks (both chennai and BLR - unicorn motors) are very approachable and atleast listen to my grievances unlike yamaha people. I always used to approach roadside mechanic for my Rx135, but thankfully I need not do it for my flyte.
Looks:
Very subjective, but I and my kids like a lot my apple green flyte. She looks pretty good compared to active which looks very fatty (may be due to its big buts ;)
I am thinking of returning back to my biking days, but I am sure I wont get all the comforts that my flight offers. I can never drive with my kids in bike with the so much of comfort like the flyte. Even if I buy a bike, I can never think of ditching my flight. It has become part of my family, and I wish she continues like this for long long time.
Thanks
Ganesh.
