Hey one & all. Firstly, I would like to thank Mouthshut for providing such an excellent platform for all of us to write genuine reviews about cars. I have been reading reviews on mouthshut for Mahindra Scorpio for a long time.
I have a Swift vxi Feb 2007 and I wanted my second car to be a big car like an SUV, as it can accomodate more people with luxurious comfort and effortless drive. I have a family of six members so I decided to go for an SUV. Before I went ahead with my research I jotted down few points or amenities that I wanted in my car. Following were the amenities I wanted 1 - Power Steering, 2 - Power Windows, 3 - Central Locking, 4 - AC with Rear Vents or Ducts, 5 - Capable of carrying atleast 6 passengers comfortably & 6 - the most important price around 8 - 8.5 Lacs.
So the research started with making sure that the following amenities must not be compromised. I had 4 options - Innova, Tavera, Safari Dicor and Scorpio. I test driven the Safari first as its looks appealed me a lot. But to my disgrace the dicor demanded a lot of effort to drive it, huge vibration, rattling sound, low turning radius and lot of noise. So out went the Safari dicor.
Tavera did impressed me a lot when I test driven it. great handling, effortless drive through traffic, however when fully loaded I found that chevy grasped for breath and the looks were not of an SUV for me. Further the power was less only 85 bhp, therefore a straight no-no for tavera,
Innova test drive was fantastic. The interior of the car is superbly done, great built quality good pick up. I was about to finalise and decide to buy the car but when I saw the price tag I halted my decision. All the amenities that I wished was there in the car but the last condition(i.e. price rang of Rs. 8 - 8.5 Lacks) was not met. The amenities that iwanted was available in ahigher end model and that was a little too much for me to chukle out of my pocket. So Innova was out.
Now was the time for me to test the Scorpio. Fantastic Drive, great handling through Mumbai traffic, Great pick up(thanks to 115 bhp, crde engine), and most importantly the basic model of scorpio that is newly launched the Scorpio LX model was priced at 8.35 lacks(On road - Mumbai). Scorpio LX- has all the amenities that I wanted. And it was well in my budget too, so I bought the car. The looks of the car also impressed me a lot. I have seen people complaining about the brakes of scorpio. I agree that the breaks could have been a little better but they r not that bad to be pointed out as a negative aspect of the car. The Scorpio LX has all the features of DX except the rear wiper and side cladding. I bought it in the scond week of August 2007. Its a little early for me too right an indepth review of the car. But I will surely write the review once it is a few months old.
Anyways, for all those who are considering to buy an SUV, believe me Scorpio is the right choice. And Scorpio LX is truely a great value for money.
