Scorpio- Balanced Tail!

I do`nt own a Scorpio but have driven one extensively.

LOOKS

At first sight the Scorpio looks like a Jazzed up Jeep, at second and closer looks it still looks like a Jeep! Jokes apart the Scorpio looks lean and mean but my favourite looker from Mahindra is the Bolero.

Though the overall finish is good, the vehicle definitely looks like a Mahindra vehicle , you know rivets on the door, a little ungainly, a little extra bulk than needed. The metal is solid and you know it when you open and close the doors. All in all a Solid vehicle.

COMFORT

Its easy getting in and out of the Scorpio, even for the ladies. The space in side is ok but I feel it could have been better utilised. The front seat is comfortable and so is the second seat but the third seat is horrible.

The A/c is good but is placed wrongly for the guys in the back, It cools your nether regions more and no amount of adjustment works. The provision in the Qualis and the Versa is much better.

Riding in the front and second seat is a comfortable but not comparable with your regular cars. You still feel you are in a Jeep. The Ride is smooth and even on bad roads the ride is fairly comfortable.

There are some storage space and the vehicle is supposed to be as spacious as the Qualis but I still felt the Qualis had more space. Though in overall Passenger comfort especially on Bad roads the Scorpio wins hands down.

DRIVING

Driving the Scorpio is fun. The Pick up is great for a Diesel vehicle. The engine is responsive till about a speed of 130 kms after that it is a bit sluggish. The steering is comfortable and responsive. The gears shift smoothly and you can feel the power of the beast in the accelerator!

The noise is subdued with the windows closed and the tails does not wag on the turns. The brakes are effective and the clutch is not too hard. In fact you do not feel you are driving such a heavy vehicle. It may be a personal thing but I found the Qualis a much lighter to drive.

One thing I noticed, very clearly, the Scorpio is stable at high speeds even on turns and the Tail remains up and balanced on high speed turns too!

Driving the Scorpio on the Highway is fun it moves smoothly and powerfully and overtakes with ease. In the City too it is nimble and also your size intimidates smaller vehicles! lol

The balance of the vehicle is excellent though not comparable with the Bolero which remains my favourite Mahindra Vehicle. The Driver`s seat requires a bit more support for the back. The controls are placed for easy reach and adjustments.

OTHER POINTS

The Scorpio still turns heads wherever you go. The Operational cost is reasonable and maintence is hassle free. The Scorpio gave us no trouble in our extensive tours and we were not too tired after a long day of driving. The A/c is powerful and worked well even in the scorching heat of Summer in Gujarat.

Over all a good vehicle.
