2000 Kms done on Xylo

Here we go - ours was one among the initial 50 XYLO. Got an E4. Problem started from day 3. The clock stopped working, so did the interior cabin lights. The ’door open’ light blinked all the time in-spite of all doors locked.

Took it to the dealer and it took them 10 days, 3 failed attempts to fix it. Eventually a very Senior tech guy from a different city was brought in and he fixed it. I guess the problem was that for the initial days there was a lack of training for the technicians and I don’t think even the required designs and tech documents were provided to the dealer’s tech resources by Mahindra.

But I must put here that in all this exercise, the Mahindra staff and the dealer staff were extremely courteous, very apologetic and very very attentive. I never felt left out. But this episode definitely leaves a lot desired from M&M on the whole.

The whole vehicle it seems has been taken out in a hurry. There is no support mechanism behind it. As per what the dealer told us, there is not even a provision to affix the rear mud flaps. It seems XYLO will have an attachment for it later which will then be fixed to all sold out vehicles on call. Similar case with clock. It always stops in between and we got a call now from the dealer that the clock will be replaced.

Coming on to the general specifics now -

Positives: Very spacious vehicle......travelled almost 2000 kms on inter-state and felt the vehicle to be very comfortable as well. The power of the vehicle is immense, just to stretch it I took it to 140 Km/h and there was no vibration, no steering fuzz, no extra noise. On top of it, the engine felt like it could do more, but I did not take it up. AC works very well. Seats are nice and comfortable, really good for long drives. We opted for bucket seat option in middle row.Head lights are powerful and really lit the road.

Negatives:Cheap third grade interior plastic quality. It is amusing to see Mahindra using such cheap interiors. even a strong brush with your jeans leaves a strain mark on the plastic. No boot space at all. If you are travelling with family, you have no space for luggage. None at all.Braking is not very strong and stable. Need to be a little cautious while driving on high speeds because of this.Suspension especially at rear end is not all that great. At least in our vehicle, it does give out a eerie noise as well on bumps and speed breakers.

VERDICT: I guess XYLO is ’what-you-pay-is-what-you-get’ kinda vehicle. Given the 7.3 lakh price tag on road for E4 it is fool-hardy to expect features like air-bag or music system. All and all a good vehicle but you need to spend some more on music system and then probably do some more modifications on the interiors. Will I recommend it??? YES !!!!!!!! a very powerful vehicle with superb engine and good comfort. Light on the pocket as well.
