I confess that Jennifer Lopez was a big factor for me to watch this movie.Last evening I went in with a lot of expectations & came back a little battered...
Taking a lot of inspiration from Pretty Woman, this 21st century version falls on its face on several counts....Ralph Fiennes as Chris Marshall fails to evoke the aura of Richard Gere as a rich, suave gentleman.J.Lo as the maid, is good in patches but the consistency of Julia Roberts eludes her.To add to this, the script starts off at a brisk pace but loses track somewhere in the middle.
The Director seems to have been besotted by the Cinderalla theme so that J.Lo goes for a Charity Ball & swoons Ralph Fiennes over.
Well, let me try and put the plot together as I understtod it...J.Lo is a single mother with a Kid & a lousy Job as a maid in a plush Manhattan Hotel..( Was too dazed to pick the name of the Hotel). In a case of mistaken identity, Ralph Fiennes mistakes her for a charming socialite & then proceeds to woo her.J.Lo plays along with this facade & then we have a couple of well enacted scenes where Ralph Fiennes is Extremely good!!!!
Well, the bubble bursts & Ralph realizes that he has flipped for Maid ( All thanx to the directors cupid sense). And finally, Alls well that ends Well!!!!
At the risk of being overtly critical, my advise would be to give this movie a miss & catch Pretty Woman & Notting Hill On the DVDs!!!!
