Well the movie all in all is Masala and thats why there are tonnes tonnes of hilarious unintended material but leave that aside and you have some sort of humorous intended and humorous unintended film. Among the most unintended humorous aspects of the movie is the song Main Hoon Naa ... now why on earths name would SRK sing that song to Zayed Khan is beyond me, first it was like a shock and then it was like Oh My God and then it was an amused smile. There are others where Zayed Khan of all people develops macho martial arts better than those of trained Army men overnight in the climax. And then there is this hilarious chase of a Scorpio I think by a richshaw. But these are just bloopers, there are some shortcomings in the script as well.
Sunil Shetty as the dreaded terrorist in disguise is as passable as well what, lets say SRK as a (man, oops sorry sorry sorry) versatile actor. Everyone on earth knows something will happen in Darjeling, but cant trace someone who would do it despite him being known. Then ofcourse this whole Operation Milaap is so stupid, I mean releasing 50 persons is not Army prerorogative, thats for Govt. to decide. Chalo woh bhi chhodo, there is also a problem with the basic premise how kidnapping or killing a generals daughter will influence Govt. policy? Well like I said chalo chhodo. And then you have to accept SRK as the Best Army Person in India ... yeah alright. What next? Yukta Mookhey for Prime Minister?
This is one movie where everyone fights with everyone. Naseeruddin Shah in his careers most dumb role fights with Kiran Kher, who in turn fights with Zayed Khan who is fighting with Amrita Rao who in turn is major pissed with her Dad. If thats not enough, everyone for some reason also hates Ram Prasad without actually knowing who he is or how he looks. I must have missed it, but I am sure even Sushmita Sen would be fighting with someone. And Hamara Angel solves it all, well yeah! What you expect a looser film on the lines of KHKN?
Among the highlights in the film are dance sequences, almost everyone has shaken the leg rather well, even Bindu has danced like her former self. The heroines despite roles which are briefer than Mallika Shehrawats silence periods, light up the screen whenever they come, and their style though minimal is unique. Opposite is the case with Zayed Khan, now I know he was to look like a Turd in first half, but he even made a mess of that. He tries an equivalent of Male Poo and ends up in complete disaster in first half. There are times when Amrita Rao has those strange expressions as if saying What all do I have to put up with lolz. Support cast in the school or high school or whatever is quite okay and do tend to contribute to the best part of the movie. The best part itself is sandwiched between the TV Shoot Out (literally) in beginning and some fighting which starts in pre pre pre climax.
SRK is passable in action, he does ok. In college scenes he is sometimes good brining back memories of KHKN, sometimes he is made to do all the stupid stuff. Zayed post interval looks like a different actor altogether. Sushmita Sen does nothing except sashay down the college alleys in designer sarees and clothes. Her figure is Hot. Amrita Rao is the one with the most consistent role and makes the most of it. A huge supporting cast come, shout, act a bit, shake a leg or two and dissappear.
Action is sometimes imaginatively done and some times inspired so clearly, one can yawn. Photography is good and camera work is really good. Shot on location, art direction is quite decent and dialogues are well just how you expect in a masala movie. Editing could be a bit tighter but you dont mind it as long as school thing is going on. Screenplay is good in that it makes transition effortless but it could have picked up lesser number of issues to handle, still it is ok. Direction wise movie scores some high marks. Its not a Farhan Akhtar but still classy shot taking and some imaginative sequences. She has tried at least to do some things differently.
Overall, worth a watch and more. Masala entertainment so leave your brains in parking Lot. Its not path breaking cinema but they did not intend making one anyways.
