More Paagal than Deewani...

Story again from his own banner, Chit Chor. While Chit Chor was a simple story told lovingly, Main Prem ki Deewani Hoon is hyper and long drawn out.

The story simply put, is a case of mistaken identities with Kareena (Sanjana) falling in love with the wrong Prem. The beaten to death story of two good friends Vs the girl heads towards a predictable climax.

The thing about this movie is that it keeps you fairly engaged till the interval. In fact I guess a lot of people in the audience seemed to be enjoying it. It is over the top in more ways than one but despite every person except Pankaj Kapur yelling their lungs out, it is still very tolerable. The second half meanders into meaningless nothing towards a hopeless climax. Previously other directors copied Barjatya. Now he copies Karan johayash chopra. This movie will surely go into the Rajashri books as a landmark movie in having a kissing scene (albeit not the lead pair).

While Barjatya Jr movies have never been known for their subtelety and good humor, this movie goes one step forward in both directions, for the worse. The screeching parrot and the dog (unnecessarily animated) grate on one’s nerves.

Abhishek Bacchan is tolerable because in a film very everyone hams, he has minimal dialogue and mercifully, minimal screen footage too.

Mr Anu Malik seems to have scored the score in a tearing hurry. Loud and boisterous like the movie, none of the songs have the remotest shot at longeivity.

It is high time Mr Barjatya reinvented himself. If, after five years, this is all the movie he has to deliver, God save the mush.
