When I went to watch this movie I was expecting a lot of Gandhism, but to my surprise it wasnt there. Gandhi name is just used for marketing the movie. Although in the end they have kept a hypocritic speech mentioning how Indians have forgotton Gandhian Principle.
Basically, Maine Gandhi ko nahi mara deals with old age problems and effect of that on their family members not forgetting the reactions of family members to that problem.
STORY:
Kher is well known Retired Hindi Professor who has two sons and one daughter(Urmila).kher who initially starts forgetting things and later on become the patient of Hallucination.
The story showcases :
Firstly the effect of khers problem on his family members.
And secondly how his daughter inspite of having personal problems support him and succeeds in taking him out from that trauma.
PLUS:
a) First half is brilliant and beautifully executed. The acting of kher and urmila needs special applause. They are just toooooooo brilliant.
b) The Baruas stroy and screen play in first half is great. It holds you like anything. (Infact the gal sitting besides me started crying!!!!!!!!!!)
c) Small but important roles played by Wahida Rehman, Rajat kapoor, Prem Chopra, Boman Irani and not to forget Parveen Dabbas add to the brilliance of the film.
MINUS:
a) The second half is not that great especially when the suspense is unfolded.
b) Gandhi name is just used for marketing purpose??!!
c) At last the hypocritic speech given by kher. Which is just added to save their A** for using Gandhi name in the movie.
In most of the movies these days concepts are really good but I dont know why they just spoil it (so that it may appeal to the masses or producers????)
Overall its a geat attempt. I must say kher and Urmila Rocks!
