Yesterday I went to Mainland China’s Outlet in Malad’s Infinity Mall. I am fan of Mainland China for long time. As written in most of the reviews, they serve you Authentic Chinese food . But now I am feeling their quality is deteriorating. The outlet has the signature Mainland China’s superb ambiance. But there was huge decline in the quality in food. First we ordered Wok tossed prawns in Black Pepper Sauce, which was very salty. After notifying the same, the dish has been changed and been made with proper taste. But honestly it was not as per the Mainland China’s usual standards. Later we ordered for Fukein Crabmeat Fried Rice. We expected some Crab in the dish but what a ’Crap’! It was nothing but the usual fried rice with few pieces of omelette (just like we can find in the Chicken Fried Rice on the street ’Chinesewalla’! There was no single piece of Crab in this dish. We also had a wine and pint of beer.
The real shocker is the Bill ! The actual bill was Rs.2305/- (as per given in the Menu card) but there was Rs.400/- extra (ie. 30% extra) they charged as various charges and taxes ! The additional charges are as follows - On wine - 20% VAT (Rs.119/-), On beer- 5% VAT (Rs.8/-), on Food its 12.50% VAT (Rs. 168/-), Service Tax - 4.944% (Rs. 114/-)! This doesn’t end here, they separately charged Rs. 210 /- as Service Charge (@10%). On asking about this Service charge, I have been told that this will go in ’Mainland China employees Welfare Fund’ . That means in the huge margins on food and beverage the restaurant receives, (ex a pint of Kingfirsher mild for Rs. 180/-) the management can’t manage the welfare of their employees and its depend upon the consumer!!
When I raised all these issues, then Rs. 400/- had been deducted from the total bill and we received the complimentary ice cream !!! This is because we protested and communicated the issue but what about those who don’t protest and pay the bill ? So Kindly visit Mainland China if you are interested to pay the hefty taxes, Food with bad quality and yes, to pay for welfare for their employees !!!!
