Ive been living in Bangalore for a while but the first time I discovered Mainland China was actually in 2004 in Chennai. When Hubby and I moved to Bangalore in 2005 we were happy to see that the same restaurant was there.
Back then there was only one in Church street, it wasnt as crowded as it is now, and the service was quite good. But I must say that over the years they started slacking, not always taking time to ask if you wanted the chinese tea (complimentary) or if you wanted chopsticks, or anything. But still the food remained good.
I think its about a year and a half ago that they opened a second outlet in Indiranaga (on 100ft rd right after the flyover) and this one is great, the staff is courteous, fast and they never forget the complimentary touch. My only negative comment for them would be that their staff isnt too knowledgeable about the wine, not that we take some everytime we go, but going as far as claiming that a "dry" white wine is the same as a "half dry" is a mistake the Swiss gal in me has a problem to deal with as there is a clear defference between these even for the least trained palate.
On the menu, this is great to see a place that does without the "chindian" of paneer manchurian, and other dishes that swimm deep in garlicky tomato gravy. The taste is more authentic and quite close to the small chinese restaurants I visited across Europe.
As a starter I HIGHLY recommend any of their Dimsums, they are all great, be it vegetarian, . chicken or prawn, their spring rolls arent bad either, some of their soups are a bit flat to my taste but as I said I tend to go for the dimsum each time we visit.
In the main course, their vegetable dishes arent too varied but still good enough, they specialise more in non-veg (anyway chinese cuisine is mostly non-veg to begin with) so in that aspect I can understand that a strictly veg person might be a bit disappointed. In the non-veg selection though, I would recommend to pass the duck dishes, they dont taste that great and are costly considering the quality you get.
