I visited Mainland China with axpectation of "authentic" chinese food. But, I was disappointed.
Here are my observations:
Food 3.5/5
No matter how comforting the ambience is, how hospitable the service is, utlimately everything boils down to one thing- how good the food is.
Food is about 80-85% authentic but its much better and authentic than any other chinese resturant in town
I was extremely disappointed to see incorrectly spelled "Schezwan" instead of "Sichaun" in their menu. Most of us dont know that there is no term as "Schezwan". It is an Indian pronounced-spelling on "Sichuan" which is the actual word. I was expecting it to be right there.
Another disappointment was to know that they do not serve Brown Rice which is staple chinese rice
The food is pretty indianized with flavors and aromas bending more towards Indian cusine rather than Chinese
Quantity of food servings is good
Shrimps were smelling a bit. Probaby they did not marinade them well.
Tofu seemed to be Paneer
Overall- just avegarage food
Ambience 2.5/5
Cozy atmosphere.
English style interiors and furnitures with hint of chinese embelishments here and there- Just like food ambience is not authentic chinese
Lighting is fine- not to dark, not too bright
Cutlery was again not chinese- they served rice in a flat dish intead of a bowl
I asked for Chopsticks and they were not available
Table linens were not very clean
Music playing was again not inline with the chinese thme of the resturant. Indian instrumental music in a chinese resturant just doesnt work.
Service and Staff 3/5
Service was delayed
I visited on weekend and there was a lot of rush. It seemed as if they were falling short of staff
Staff was fairly hospitable- after first serving, my waiter never returned
