Question: How to increase the mileage of a bike?

Answer:

Now a days the petrol prices are rising very frequently due to scarcity of fuel. Presently the petrol price per litre is about 50 rupees. Many people are facing lot of economic problems due to this. Some are converting there petrol running engines in to gas running. Some are adding Kerosene to petrol. The people who don’t have much knowledge about bikes are many in number. They don’t think of the damage done to the engine by doing these silly things. So I have presented a number of tips to improve the mileage of a bike. The bikes which are good and give more mileage are also listed below.

Some Useful tips for better mileage:

The gear shifts should be in accordance with the speed. Some people think that by going slowly in the top gear increases mileage. Yes surely it increases but at the same time the life span of the engine decreases. The engine faces a lot of strain while doing this activity.

No heavy modifications should be done like keeping a big radial tyre behind, changing the silencer etc, . They reduce the mileage. Because the engine will be accustomed to the previous ones. If you keep a fresh tyre or silencer it takes a period of time for the engine to get accustomed and thus the consumption of petrol rises.

The oil must be changed once in a month. If you give the bike to the service center they will only look after this activity. Because good oil is required for the good performance of the bike. I recommend castrol oil. I think that it is best available in the market.

No wheelies, Stopies must be done. They give a lot of strain to the engine. While doing any of the above the entire pressure will be on one of the tyres. The more the pressure the more the petrol consumption.

The bikes average speed must be around 40 kilometers per hour. The top speed must be 70 kilometers per hour. It should not be exceeded than that.

The quality of petrol should be good. No other constituents must be added in it. For example some people add kerosene to petrol. It damages the engine. I recommend speed and reliance petrol. They are of good quality.

For 2 stroke bikes the 2 stroke oil must be correctly added along with the petrol. The best available 2 stroke oil is HP racer 2 oil.

Excessive use of clutch should be avoided. One should not rest his hand on the clutch while in normal riding.

No extra load must be carried. The bikes in India are mostly 2 seaters. So the maximum number persons traveling on a bike must be two.

And lastly ensure that the petrol cap is correctly fixed. Because if it isn’t then the petrol gets evaporated.

Recommended Bikes:

As the petrol prices are rising the best available bikes are in the 100 – 125 cc section. They are Bajaj CT-100, Bajaj Discover, Hero Honda Passion, Hero Honda Splendor. If one dislikes these above bikes and cares for a little bit of more style then the best bike is Honda Unicorn. If still not satisfied then go for one of the Pulsar twins or other bike in your mind.
