Most of the peoples think that maintaining a Bike is the most toughest Job. But in reality it is one of the simplest thing to do. Now a days almost everyone have a bike and they do take them for a ride everyday. Most of them doesnt not know much about bikes this is sadly a truth. This often lead to misuse of there bikes, they starts making stories that the bike is poor in performance. There will be some occasion where that individual bike alone will be in trouble the rest will be ok, but still they will blame the bike. I am writing this rev based one my visions of how to maintain a bike. I know most of u will not accept it. Anyway I will sum up the tips for maintaining a bike
There are many tips that will have a person to keep his bike in good condition.
First when u are going to buy a new bike, go through all the things u do in ur day to day life and select a bike which will suit ur needs. For a new bike every company will limit the speed to say 30 kmph for 1000 kms. Most of the peoples ignore this limit and they will go beyond 30kmph.This restriction is made to ensure that the engine doesnt get overdo its job.For a new bike the engine components will not have suffered any wear and tear. If we use the bike for the fullest in the begininng period then this wear and tear will be more and engine gets heated more and the overall performance of the bike will surely decrease.I know many peoples give the complaint that the bike gets very much hot, in the intial period the main reason is this.If we try to follow the limits then the wear and tear will be less and the overall performance of the machine will be high. I rate this to be the most important part in maintaining the bike. Some times we may not feel this in the intial period but as we use the bike the problems will begin to occur.
The next thing to be keep in mind is about how to use the clutch and the importance of maintaining speed . There are many problems using the clutch regularly like low mileage, wear and tear of clutch plate etc.In all techincal books it is well written that always minimize the use of clutch. It is always good for the machine if we maintain a speed between 40 - 60 kmph, then the use of clutch and also brakes will be less. But the truth is that in our kind of condition it is almost not possible to maintain the speed, still is a good practice to try to keep the speed constant whenever it is possiblel. If u r going in a hilly area then always try to keep the gear in first or second. When we see a hilly area we will increase the speed and try to go in fourth or third gear, it is a usual practice observed. The main problem is the power developed by the engine will be less in these gears and the speed will decrease and then we have to put the first or second gear .This will decrease the mileage of the bike. It is very important that when u r trying to ride in first gear make sure that the engine doesnot make a knocking sound. it is not good for the engine if we try achieve more speed in first gear.
The above things depends a lot on the person who is driving the bike. The rest of things can be done by anyone. In most of the bike that we see around after a couple of years from purchase the battery of the bike will be in deepwaters. We can see the bikes horn will not work like that it did in the intial periods. The next thing to do is check the battery regularly.Say in two weeks check the level of distilled water in the battery. This is not done by most of the peoples and it will result in the low life of battery. When u take u r bike for a ride keep an eye on the tyre pressure. In many cases the tyre pressure will be low. It is a good practice to check the pressure two or three times a month. Always use the tyre pressure that is recommended by the company. If the pressure is high then the chance of puncher, skiding etc will increase.
All can feel the heat of the engine while riding. The next thing is Oil. In engine the pistons moves inside the cylinder. as both of them are metal lubrication is very important for better performance of the machine. All companies provides in the data sheet when to change the oil. The main reason for the change of oil is because inside the cylinder the fuel is burned and the ash and other deposits will deposit in the oil, they are mainly carbon components. This will decrease the lubricating action of the oil and causes the engine to wear out quickly and will result in poor performance. If u dont know when to when to change the oil consult ur motorcycle expert or the call the company helpline.
These are some of the things that we have to keep in our mind. Besides this we have to do the services at the right time this will increase the overall performance of the bike. If u see some problem with the bike contact the service immediately. For example if the engine gets very hot then never try to use the bike instead give the bike for a service. I have followed all the things while riding my bike and still now after 6 years of journey the bike gives its best.
I Hope that this rev has given some use to u all. I Have written all this from my experience, I dont know how much u accept it . Anyway if u feel that I have missed anything or I have given any wrong statements please give ur comment
