Will a Helmet stop you from Dying? NO. nothing can stop you rather I should say nothing can stop death from reaching us.
Then you might say - if we have to die we will die whether we wear a helmet or not, so why spend money on it? and some even say it is inconvinient.
This is just an advice to all my friends out there on the new year eve. Hey! how about making a resolution this year that you will never ride a bike without a Helmet?
Anyone remember seeing MicK Doohan, Carl Fogarty, Troy Bayliss, Mike Hakinnen, Micheal Schumacher, Rubens Barichello, David Coulthard. who are all these ppl? Well they are the Sachin Tendulkar, Ganuly, Lara, Shane Warne, Shoaib Akthar, Waseem Akram from the Motorsports world.
Ever Imagined why even the Master of a F1 driver that Micheal Shcumacher is wears a helmet everytime he races his Ferrari inspite of knowing that it is probably the BEST and SAFEST car on the planet?
HEY! Remember STREET HAWK. that guy on a Black Bike, in a Black Dress and a Black HELMET?
Then WHY did Ayrton Senna die in a F1 car accident? Wasnt he wearing a helmet? Yes he was.
Well! that is life. U never know when n how you will meet the fate but it is basic human nature to try and keep onself as safe as possible from the Elements.
Let me Start off.
If you have or planning to get a bike(I mean any two wheeler) make sure that you get a nice Helmet. PLEASE do not buy a cheap helmet from any of those footpath/roadside vendors. Visit a nice shop where you have a range of price and colors and models to choose from. Tell him your budget range and the color choice(Make sure that your helmet is in tone with the color of the machine you ride) think of your bike as your trousers and the helmet as the shirt. Would you put on a BLUE shirt on a RED trousers?
Look for a good brand with an ISI(Certification) mark. Your head deserves the BEST.
Make sure the Helmet has nice padding inside and try a few sizes until you find the correct one which shouldnt be so loose that it goes to the right when you turn your head to the left neither should it be so tight that you find urself gasping and endup with head aches.
It is always advised to go in for a Plain Visor as a dark one would become a problem at night. If you wish, you may go for 2 visors and change it as per the timings or get just the plain visor and if the sun is tooo bright. slip on a pair of cooling glasses inside the visor, over your eyes.
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A PLACE WHERE I CAN GET A DARK VISOR(like that of the Streethawk) FOR MY HELMET WITH NIGHT VISION?
Also get yourself a Helmet cap which you may wear first and then the Helmet so that it takes almost all of the dirt\sweat instead of the sponge and the lining of the helmet. It will be easier to wash this small cap regularly and that would mean longer life of the helmet sponge and clean hair:)
Make sure that you clean\wipe the Visor before every ride and depending on the useage and the climate and your prespiration, the lining can be changed - say once in a year or two. NOTE: The sponge gets pressed over a period of time and the Helmet may not fit the way it should after a certain period of time.
A few months back, I had a very small slide of my bike and ended up with a torn jean and a bruised elbow and later even saw that there was a scratch on my helmet. I just kissed my Helmet, Thanked GOD and prayed for my friend who taught me the importance of a Helmet.
All said, you still just cannot appreciate enough the benefits on a Helmet as it saves your eyes and face\skin from the tons of dust\dirt of the city traffic. The other day I came from a 170km ride and still found that my eyes were perfectly normal and I just had to rinse my face with
water. Negligible traces of dirt\pollution.
My Helmet is a VEGA StreetHawk and I just Adore it the way I Adore my bike.
Wish you all a Safe Ride and very Happy New Year.
