Believe me, it is not everybodys cup of tea. It is tiring & gruelling process to maintain & see your bike spic & span especially during this rainy season. The most effective tips, after owning these machines for 16years, are as below; 1. Wash your bike with soft/sweet water everytime you wish to knock the loose dirt. Never wipe it dry. 2. Do not use hard, synthetic or stiff cloth to wipe it. Use soft cotton cloth such as your old cotton T-shirt or Trunk briefs(they are excellent). 3. Do not scrub hard to remove grim/sticky material or for that matter, for the purpose of shining it. Instead use over the counter silicone wax on those areas to remove tar, oil, grease etc. Do not apply this wax all over. It will be real cumbersome to shine/polish it. NEVER USE ANY SOLVENT/KEROSENE/THINNER ESPECIALLY ON THE PAINTED SURFACE. 4. Use soft shampoos, or 2 Rs sachet of any shampoo, to wash it thoroughly. Or if you can afford to buy a wax based shampoo, go for Carnauba Wax-Shampoo & Polish both. It may cost around Rs. 300 & 400. But is worth it. Its effect & coating will be for much longer period. 5. Apply Clear/light yellow grease to moving joints/parts such as side & centre stand, kick-joint, accelerator & brake joints, Brake-levers & joints etc. 6. Apply ordinary wax polish on chrome areas, wheel spokes with little thicker coat during the rainy season & DO NOT BOTHER TO SHINE IT till the weather settles down. It will protect your chrome from rust. Do it more often in this season. 7. DO NOT APPLY LUBRICATING OIL/KEROSENE/THINNER/DIESEL/PETROL/SOLVENT OF ANY KIND ON THE PLASTIC PARTS & FITTINGS, IT WILL DAMAGE IT BEYOND REPAIR. Use Carnauba wax spray for plastic parts. It is extremely effective & will make your plastic always look like new(deep blacK). 8. Oil your clutch & brake cables by filling lubricating oil in a syringe(get from a medical store). Fill it & push the needle inside the gap from the top & press it. Oil will reach inside very effectively without spoiling any other part. 9. Lastly, check your Drive-Chain tension regularly & wipe it clean before lubricating it. Use thicker Oil for the same(Gear oil-SAE90 or equivalent). I may have missed out on some tips. Please do write back for clarification. GOOD LUCK
