A planned modification

Hey everybody.

I have a doubt about a planned modification of the bike. I thought of discussing that with MS members since it would give me a better understanding. After all you guys are very good when informing others. So if you have come to this review seeking advice about maintaining a bike, I’m sorry I misled you!

So I bought this Sp+ on September 2005. Worked very well, and works very well. Today I gave it for servicing - it’s first paid service. It’s completed 13, 500 kms. At the Service Centre, I asked them whether they could do anything to increase the speed. After a long discussion(they kept discouraging), they said they could increase the pickup, by compromising on mileage. I told them to go ahead and do it. Now I have the following doubts about the "pickup increase".

1) Will the power of the bike increase? The service-centre chap said it would be like Super Splendor. So will it be like 9 bhp?

2) Will changing the pickup ruin the engine long-term?

3) Will the maximum speed of the bike increase?

4) Is it possible to bring the engine back to the default settings in, let’s say, the next service? And if so, will this "tinkering / tweaking" cause any side-effects?

5) Since the mileage would come down, how low would the new mileage be? Atleast 45-50 kmpl?

6) I usually use only the back-brake for braking. Now the braking by the back-brake isn’t as good as the front, which is precise. Would it be better to change the brake shoes? Or would it be better to go to the welding shop and get the shoes welded with extra metal(I did that for my friend’s moped when we didn’t get the brake shoes anywhere in Chennai)?

7) Since I’m increasing the power, is it better to get disc brakes? Or will the existing drums do?

I know there is nothing really "useful" in this review, but others who have experienced all these things with their bikes would be able to provide valuable suggestions. I am sure that will be "Very Useful" for me.

Expecting your comments with help in all this.

Regards,

Jacob.
