I recently flew with Malaysia Airlines from Delhi to Beijing, transiting through Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and my experience was far from satisfactory.
Upon arriving at the baggage check-in counter, I encountered extremely rude staff. Despite my ticket clearly stating that I could carry 35 kg of luggage, they insisted that I could only carry a 32 kg bag if it was a single piece and allowed 35 kg only if it was split into two bags. This contradictory policy was frustrating and seemed designed to inconvenience passengers.
To add to the inconvenience, they refused to allow my small Louis Vuitton trolley bag, which fits in the cabin, alongside my backpack. I was forced to choose between the two, and despite my attempts to reason with them, they charged me an exorbitant fee of 10, 905 for excess baggage.
I initially refused to pay, but the staff gave me an ultimatum: either pay or miss my flight. Their tone and attitude were incredibly unprofessional and seemed aimed at exploiting passengers under the threat of missing their flights.
In a further attempt to document this unfair treatment, I started filming the interaction on my phone. However, the staff demanded that I delete the footage immediately or risk missing my flight. This aggressive stance only added to my distress.
The service slowed down significantly once I agreed to pay the excess baggage fee, almost causing me to miss my flight. It felt like the staff were intentionally delaying the process out of spite.
Overall, my experience with Malaysia Airlines was deeply disappointing. The rude and unhelpful staff, coupled with their confusing baggage policies and attempts to exploit passengers, make it a carrier I would not recommend.
They need to address their customer service and clarify their baggage policies to prevent such distressing experiences for future travelers.
