Avoid, if you can...

My 88-yr-old mother slipped down a staircase and banged her head hard on reaching the bottom of the staircase. Her scalp was ripped open, there was profuse bleeding, and she was suffering excruciating pain in her neck and left arm. I rushed her to the emergency room of the MalikHospital a few minutes away. Dr Dinkar Singh gave emergency treatment but only for her torn scalp. Her left fore-arm had swelled rapidly in the wrist area and the slightest movement of her neck brought on screaming pain.

It was not immediately apparent whether any neck bone was broken. The staff at the hospital did not appear to be familiar with how to move a patient with severe neck trauma, and Dr Singh was casual and not really interested in what was going on. Dissatisfied with the care received at the MalikHospital, I took her by the Malik Hospital ambulance to another hospital - the ambulance was a "khataara" van and the staff clumsy in handling her.

Later, when the scalp stitches needed to be removed, the doctor removing the stitches commented that the suturing(at the MalikHospital) had been very clumsily done(lagta hai jaise jaanwar par karte hain) and, in fact, there were unstitched gaps so that further dressing was necessary till full healing. I had no choice about going to this hospital because there was an emergency and it was closest to us, but if I have a choice, I will never go there again.
