Malwarebytes detects adware and malware that normal antiviruses do not. I recommend using this software since adwares and malwares reduce the performance of your pc considerably. I have faced this situation once, but malwarebytes helped me get out of it.
However, I would suggest using an antivirus software with it since it does not have a good virus database.
It can sometimes be annoying since it goes for an automatic update every time you run a full system scan.
