One of the fellow reviewer mentioned its not Menos but Minnows and that in a gentlemen’s game it is great that Mandira stayed her course ..As for the Minnows .. I used the Menos and Mas analogy to bring out the under tone used by Mandira. And I believe that is quite constricting and says a lot about herself!(Myopic) ’not a place for ladies, in a gentleman’s game’ .. will rather be way hindered if it starts on the wrong footing of this ’Noodle-strapped vamp’ (using this phrase from another review here), who just verbalizes a few pointers given to her by the cricket journalists.
Female cricket commentary started in 1937 by Marjorie Pollard at Oval when England played Australia. Trust me even today female do take aspiration from her debut. Donna Symmonds of WI is a lawyer cum journalist who is currently one of the most successful Test Cricket Commentator along with Wimbledon as well. Kass Naidoo is the prolific SA celebrity sports broadcaster, that Clyve Loyd once said, ’she herself knows better cricket than the whole WI cricket team’! Elize Lombard is the first Female Cricket CEO again in SA.
The point is, a cricket commentator (for that matter a cricket channel host, who comments on the teams and the play of cricket) must not be seen as a woman (and in no way close to a wimp like Mandira). Rather be knowledgeable, authoritarian and neutral about the game. As a fan of Indian Cricket she is allowed to grizzle for the rest of her life outside this international channel. Most of all, it is simple common sense and a sense of proportion that she lacks so hugely! I would be honoured to welcome first, a female host or a cricket commentator or a female cricket player who gives cometary .. but not this senile-pea-brain-wimp!
