Its strange ! there is an old saying in hindi that under big banyan trees, small plants cant grow. Same is the case with mandya.. Mysore has stolen from it what is originally its share... Do u know that srirangapatnam is in mandya not mysore?? yes ! the place, the karmabhumi of Tipu Sultan falls in mandya district not mysore.. in srirangapatna, u will see the traces of Tipu’s burnt wooden palace which was burnt by british so that Revolt can be stopped.. here is the place where tipu got killed.. here is the shrine in his memory along with the makbara( muslim memorial structue eg. tajmahal) along with his family.. and a museum where all Tipu’s things and relevant objects r kept.. within one km, there is one rare Sangam of three rivers.. u will find locals doing rituals there... and only near, there is a very Ancient, Maa Durga’s temple called Nimishambha Temple which is at a divine peaceful place on the bank of river with stones all over..!!!! if u r a follower of Hindu Dharma, go once there and ask whatever from God and it will get fulfilled.. Just 5-6 kms from Srirangapatna bus stand, There is Sriranganathettu Bird Sanctuary from jun-july till feb-march u can see plethora of Siberian birds there... U will be amazed to see how many foreign tourists reach there and many of us dont even know !!!! Take binocular and some food-water and enjoy a day in lap of Nature !!! And for God Sake, dont leave any Garbages over there.. Then there is a place called Melkot which is at quite a height.. 1.there u will find two ancient temples protected by Archaelogic Survey of India. 2.three manmade ponds with different myths and different water level.. 3. one old structure like Delhi’s Jantar mantar used by astrologers in their’s time.. 4. one long walkable park surrounded by jungle and both sides deep valleys... 5. and it is told that natives of Melkot r byborn intellectuals(its being said). then there is Balmuri if u go after rainy season, u will come to see an old dam like structure where u can enjoy bathing.. and in last
Did U know that the Famous KRS Dam and Vrindaban Garden of mysore is actually in the province of Mandya ! Anyway, my purpose was just to make awareness and not to raise any issues..
The Famous Maddur Vade also belongs to mandya !!!
if u happen to travel between mysore and bangalore u will get to hear vendors yelling and selling maddur vades...
The Town
Mandya town is Small. but u will get good lodging and fooding plus cheap autos.. yes, u can hire cabs , of course.. There is my college, P.E.S.C.E. mandya do find time to visit its campus, hostel and excellent Game complex with indoor stadium, outdoor cricket , football, lawn tennis, basketball, vollyball stadiums all distinct.. and a great State level Swimming pool where u can bath unlimited during visitors timing for just 8 Rupees !!
There r a lots many small places but u cant reach them till someone familiar with it is with u.. This is that unforgettable place where I stayed for 4 yrs. got my career shaped , got a lifetime love, got friends.. and lots of Memories.....
I miss Mandya .....
