The only thing great about the movie seems to be its publicity department ... they managed to get to the covers of most of the indian news magazine .. lots of ads in papers .. lot of co-branded stuff .. giving away aamir khan masks at the theater ..
It doesnt live up to the hype that they have generated ..
Aamir Khan , Tobey Stephens , and Rani have done a decent job.But nothing exceptional ...
Amisha Patel cant act .. esp when you compare her against other actors in the movie .
The characters played by Rani and Amisha seem to have been added to the script just to add some ’sex appeal’ .
AR Rahman has done a poor job. Its probably his worst job so far .. There are too many songs .. which break the flow of the movie .. The best song is the title song ’mangala mangala ..’ . I guess thats the reason why they are not showing any other songs in the tv promos.
What I liked about the movie is that my knowledge of indian history might have improved .. I liked the way they seemed to separate history and fiction using Om Puri’s as the story teller , the part told by Om Puri seems to be from historic records.
But I dont think it was worth the 3 1/2 hours and they money I spent .. It would be better to watch it on VCD/DVD , so that you can save time (skip the songs) and money.
The visuals and sound effects are not exceptional , so you wont miss anything , if you watch it on TV.
