At Mangalore, I have observed that there are many mom-n-pop colleges which have opened up like mushrooms in the recent past. Every tom, dick and harry with business interests in restaurants, construction, waste management, departmental stores etc. have opened up a "1-building" college in the name of their father and grandfathers. Next time you see "ABC memorial college of engineering/medical science", you will know what I mean. Just try to dig what these "ABC" have done for the society, and you will start rolling on the floor with laughter.
All these crooks are using education as a front to convert their black money to white, and to get a feel of being respectable. I seriously hope the likes of Tatas will donate their personal wealth to create some long-lasting educational institutions in this country (just like the way some billionaires created the best universities in USA through donating their personal wealth during early 1900s).
Until this happens, these crooks who are basically businessmen trying to make quick buck, will continue to con average citizens out of their hard-earned money in the name of providing education. And some parents, with no other options available will send their children to these colleges hoping they will learn something.
