I lost my father on July 28, 2024. This was mainly due to medical negligence. He had a fall at home and went through a silicon implant to repair his neck of femur fracture. This was under Dr Kelkar. We were told that Dad would be in ICU for 24 hr observation. But instead, he was moved to a ward. He was in so much pain by 9 hr post-surgery. We begged that they move him to ICU. But the in all duty doctor claimed that they don’t have ICU bed. Also, Dr Kelkar triaged him to be in the ward instead of 24 hr ICU observation. We somehow managed our dad in the ward who was in so much pain after he was discharged on July 4.
By July 7, we realized that it was beyond us to help Dad with his pain. So we moved him to rehab. Then on July 19, we took him back for stitch removal which Dr Kelkars junior doc did without anesthesia causing a near cardiac arrest. Again we had to admit Dad in ICU from July 19-20. He was still in constant pain and the leg on which the surgery was done had swollen. His kidney condition also started deteriorating.
On July 24 we again took him to Manipal hebbal due to unbearable pain. He was improving under Dr Chopdas care but on July 27, Dr Karthavya took over. The minute Dr Karthvaya took over we knew that my Dad was not in good hands. He wanted to put in a fentanyl patch though my Dad had already been given two earlier patches. Though his BP was unsteady he did a 2-hour dialysis without approval. In fact, on his second last day in ICU, a nurse was ready to strap him as he was trying to remove his NIV. When we got his body his nose was deeply wounded because of NIV. My dad told me that he was mistreated in the ICU. These folks have no compassion and don’t deserve to be in this profession.
My Dad died because of the careless and irresponsible behavior of doctors like Dr Kelkar, and Dr Karthvaya. Save yourself and never go to this hospital especially if your Dear one is above 80. This is butcher place.
We informed Mr Arun, Hospital Director and Dr Mahesh and they promised an internal review. I am sure they will bury this case.
