Due to the lack of good hospitals in my area (Marathahalli) I selected Manipal as it was a multispeciality hospital for having my first child. I decided against going to Cloud nine as in case of other complications my wife or kid may suffer. However this one decision is going to haunt me for the rest of my life. My wifes water had broken and we rushed her to Manipal hospital.
As soon as I reached Manipal my problems started. There was no expert doctor who was able to take decisions when I reached there. My consultant doctor whom I trusted blindly did not even care to visit my wife and told me that since the water has broken my wife should be going to labour in the next few hours and if she does not go we would have to go for a caesarean. After 4 hrs my wife did not go into labour and hence we had to go for a caesarean. However my curiosity made me search for the events that lead to child birth where I found that labour starts between 24 to 48 hrs after the water has broken (Source: Babycenter.com). I had to give in to the doctors suggestion as she said that it might be risky for my kid as the water may have dried. My wife had tried hard for the last many months to have a normal delivery and it all went for a toss due to the urge for the hospital and the doctor to earn big bucks (the doctor gets more money for a C section and even the hospital adds many charges for operation theater). If you think this was the only thing that went wrong, my problems had just begun. To give the best of the facilities I went for a special room. However the room that was given to me was a pathetic room with no facilities and on which was on the 10th floor. I fought with the hospital to change my room but after giving me several assurances they did not change it.
Since my wife had a C-section she was in pain and was having problems feeding the baby. In spite of several requests the nurses or the doctors dont show to check the status of the patient. I had to chase the nurses and the doctors several time just to get them to visit my wife once. The food given to my wife was so pathetic that we had to go back home and cook the food for her so that she can eat something in order to feed the baby properly. I spent almost 1lakh rupees for my first childs birth and yet the satisfaction would have been much more if I had taken my wife to a public hospital. Staying in the hospital for 4 days made me realize how the hospital has become a money making organisation with no or minimal concern for the patients.
I have given them a strong feedback and even after promising me that they would get back to me with my concerns, none of the authorities have contacted me yet. In short never ever go to Manipal hospital unless you have such an emergency which cannot be taken care by any other hospital. The happiest moment of my life was replaced by a traumatic experience because of Manipal. Please feel free to call me and I shall share my experience with you.
PS: My child was born on 14/12/12.
