MapmyIndia roadpilot a quick review

I have purchased Mapmyindia Roadpilot 4 months back. Here are my review notes

Positives :

  1. The search options are very good. Quickly you can locate your place of Interest.

  2. The voice can be set in 8 Indian languages.

  3. Re-calculates the new route very fast if missed.

  4. Locks to satellite in about 5 minutes. You need to be steady or stop your car till satellites locks. Otherwise, it take considerably longer time.

  5. The GUI is really good. The direction indicator size could have been smaller. It hides the places you are crossing.

  6. Maps are very well covered in main Bangalore, but not outer Bangalore. I don’t know about other cities.

Negatives :

  1. Very poor customer support. No responses to your queries. They think once they sold their products, that’s the end of their story. I have often given feedbacks, but never heard back anything from them.

  2. Poor maps in the interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu.  I dont know about other states. They add more and more cities with every updates, but I d’ont think they have plans to improve coverage in existing cities. Again no reply to my feedback from their support team.

  3. It’s pretty expensive for the kind of products they offer and their services.

  4. Map updates costs almost 10times than their nearest competitor

5 The voice volume is very low.

I DO NOT recommend this product for the following reasons.

  1. I am a travel freak, wants to visit several places. They say in their ads "Never get lost" I have several instances where, I have lost my ways. The navigator taking me some non-existent roads. sometimes I have to rely on road-side people for Guidance. The whole purpose of buying Navigator is lost.

  2. The map coverage in cities are good especially in bigger cities. It is quite useful but still needs lot of improvements. In India none of the Navigators are mature enough to guide you properly due to poor mappings

  3. The cost-factor: It’s quite expensive for the quality of maps it offers and their support. In US you get Garmin device at much cheaper prices and better features, the mapping are never compromised.

  4. Poor or no Customer support.
