This time I’m talking about Vishal Bharadwaj’s MAQBOOL... I like watching atristic movies and watching maqbool was an experience in itself.
I had heard too much about the movie before its release, so we (3 friends) decided to go for it right on the first day. I was not much amused to see that almost 80% of the hall was empty that day itself as very few like such movies.
Maqbool is based on Shakspears’s Classic Macbeth and I believe Vishal Bharadwaj has done an equally classical job converting it into hindi cinema. The movie stars Tabu, Irfan Khan, Pankaj kapur in lead and Mausmi makhija, Om puri, Nasser in guest roles and music is by Vishal himself.
The movie starts with a plot revealing Pankaj kapur as a Don and Irfan as his close aide. Tabu is his second wife and mausmi his daughter. It is really a brilliant performance from pankaj in the first half the movie revolver around him only.
The theme of the movie is pure love only. Irfan is torn in between love and loyalty and on tabu’s insistance killed pankaj and becomes his inheritor. I’ll not reveal most of the story but wil ask you to watch the movie. In the second half there are amazing performances from tabu and irfan. tabu potrayed her role in an exceptional manner. The end is also excellent.
Vishal has proved his talent in the music of teh film too. Jhil mil jhini and rubaru are two main songs oe the movie. He used Daler for rubaru which has proved to be a very nice choice.
All in all it is a worth watching movie and afetr watching I have felt a hunger to read Macbeth also.. I am also waiting for Vishal’s next movie.
