An institute without excellence.

Dear friends, I’m going to share my bitter experience with Maria College.

Some of my friends were studying there. I asked them about the academic standards of the institution and I got mixed types of opinions. I searched it on google but the college is not maintaining the website properly. Although I decided to join there for M Tech(mechanical).

I thought that the college is situated in the mainland of Kanyakumari. But it is in Attoor a small remote village more than twenty kilometers away from Kanyakumari town. We can only reach five kilometers away from the college through the public transport system. Then we can go by taxi to reach there. It is uncomfortable and costly traveling. This is the first disadvantage that I faced from there.

The infrastructure facilities are very little. That is an engineering college but looks like a high school. The service of the front office staff is not hospitable. I didn’t get the proper information from them. Then I phoned a faculty member and he came and helped me to complete the admission procedure. They are very poor at speaking English. The medium of instruction is English but usually, they are taught in the Tamil language. It is greatly affecting or academics and language skills. The students from outside Tamil Nadu cannot communicate properly with them. I have noticed that they have some regional sentiments and they will only promote students only from their state and give more marks to them. We have no freedom to complain about this.

The academic quality of the faculty members is very poor. There are very few seminars and workshop sessions to explore the practical knowledge o the students. There is no smart classroom and high-speed internet connection. They give only important to complete the syllabus. Students cannot get an opportunity to think beyond the syllabus. There are no arts and sports festivals to promote the talent of students. So students will not get a chance for enjoyment. The attitude of the staff is very conservative and they are still living in the 18th century.

I studied one year there and I discontinued because I cannot cope with the atmosphere. They failed to provide a minimum quality of an engineering college. They demanded me a huge amount to give back my certificates. I impelled to give money and escaped with my certificate from there. My dear friends, I share my experience in detail for the common good. If you wish to build your career please avoid this college and choose a better place.
