What do you consider as a good movie or say a watchable movie should not be? Watch Marigold to find out all your reasons in one!!!

I had no plan to go for the movie, after seeing the theatrical trailer. However, after the shock of sudden death given by the Buddha Mar Gaya, I thought let me go out and see if this movie makes my weekend little better.    Thank God, I got my life back and believe me, I am still alive.   Such was the disappointment from the movie. (I went for a Mallu movie today to compensate and now back in normal condition…Lol)

Marigold (Ali Larter) comes to Goa to act in Kamasutra 3. She is a known Hollywood actress, who only acted in sequels like Basic Instinct 3. She has the worst mannerism and very bad attitude to stay around.     While landing in Mumbai and reached to Goa, she found out that the movie is not happening as the producer is in jail and the director has flown to Singapore.   With some help, she landed up in Mumbai in the set of another film, where she meets Prem (Salman Khan). Without all the mannerism, the psychic and dance master Prem immediately attracted to Marigold the flower, since his mother has told him that she will come with a girl, called flower, the flower like.    Prem teaches Marigold to dance well as he instructed her to listen to the music of love. Marigold excels in her performance and interval fast approached. Remaining is Prem’s visit to his Kingdom in Rajastan, meeting the King and the queen and a visit by the ignorant boy friend of Marigold, Berry (Ian Bohen).

Poor screen play and lack of imagination made things simple as the writer, director and obviously the producer failed to make any impression at all. The main problem was that I believe the writer or Director wanted to show India and Indians as good people.   For this simple reason, there is no villain is created and the only villain who presented was the bad attitude of marigold, which made few laughs in the beginning. As the villain disappeared the directors tried to bring some new villain from overseas, but with a weak motivation and lack of purpose. To confuse was the unknown reasons for the stay or movement of the characters. Overall, all the characters lack identity. Naughty naughty Marigold all the sudden start playing the Sati Savithri, who in one second will say I love you and in the other second, I hate you. The ambitious Son of a king teach dance around and protector followed him all the time with a sword.   A lover who have no time to answer the call of his girlfriend comes to visit her by paying all the ticket price and not knowing where she is, and drink to unconscious before telling he love her. When wake up and see his new girl friend, affirm his love to her. Weak characterization, Poor knitting of the script and mediocre direction is the sum total of Marigold.

Salman Khan delivered a disappointing performance as the director failed to give the necessary charge to make the actor act. In few frames, he look good and impressive, however in others he is just sleepy as like the character and I wouldn’t blame him.

Leading lady Ali Larter gives an impressive performance. Within minutes of the film, audience reached the initial phase of the character and somewhat liked her. So, it is surely good news for Ali Larter. (Had the director stick to the comedy track based on Marigold’s arrogant nature to adjust to the Indian conditions and her way of attaining things through short cut, the fate of the film would have been little more different, of course with some serious change in the script for the second half.)

Cinematography was qualitative and landscapes are shot brilliantly.   I will give a good to very good for Cinematography.   Choreography was ok, say average to good but before the best choreographed song finished (surprisingly it is at the very end) more than half of the audience is out of the theatre. There is no typical villain and no action scenes were there.

The director, Willard Carrol’s intention was good I believe and I only wish him to know India more to picture India more with a sense.   The film tests the patience of the average people and they don’t show restraint.   Overall, the film is a pretty good disappointment.
