What more does one want?? To start with it is the cheapest car to buy, touches speed in excess of 120Kmph, has a decent Ground Clearance, is the most fuel efficient car and also easy on the pocket to maintain.
Yes am referring to the Maruti 800 which offers an unbeatable value for money.
We are a proud owner of a 2001 model(MPFI) M800 car. Since weve got a dog the only option is to go by road be it Ahmedabad or Aurangabad.
Recently we went from Delhi to Aurangabad (through Gwalior Indore) then from Aurangabad to Calcutta (through Nagpur Sambalpur) and back to Delhi. All this in about a month.Well, many had questioned our wisdom and had said that the 800 was hardly the car to survive the horrendous driving environment in many a states we desired to cross.
But they were proved wrong. In the 4802Km our little car covered, it never let us down.Only two times we did get the air pressure checked and topped the battery with distilled water and that’s it. It never gave up despite the amount of load it was carrying and the pathetic state of the roads. The high ground clearance was a boon in these conditions.
Fuel consumed was 274.63L. So avg it gave was abt 17.5Km/l not bad when u consider the broken roads in Chattisgarh and Bihar and with the aircon on in some patches. Also add to it the roof top luggage carrier which increased friction.
Besides this trip weve also done Ahmedabad Delhi in 17Hrs, when u consider the size of its engine and the bhp it delivers isn’t it amazing? It ran almost continuously for about 15Hrs and the engine temp gauge didnot even show the slightest increase in temp.
Ive driven by brother in laws top end Santro from Ahmedabad to Udaipur, yes it has Power Steering but the handling of M800 is far superior, u can throw the car around in the corners, its like driving a toy car.
Hats off to Maruti Udyog for making such a wonderful car.
