ALTO arrived with a bang and the response was well expected. So what, if this is old wine in new packaging. It comes with 5 speed manual for better mileage. So what, if it’s not as spacious as Santro or Wagon-R. ALTO is not meant for basketball players. This kid is Stylish , sleek and worth your money.How?
Maruti sure has done enough home work on its suspension and air conditioning, than on its most sold sibling(800). Pricing is just fine. And every penny is worth it when you take this cute baby on a long drive. Easy manuavour, gear shift, power steering(lxi and up) makes it the smoothest drive in town.You can literally leave behind the crowd of Chandni Chowk.
I gifted this piece of engineering to DAD last winter. It wasnt my call at all. I was opting for some Tata’s stuff for corporate price margin and ofcourse Desi-mantra. But you simply cant defy the trust and reliability that Maruti has gained over the decades(Hope they dont loose it to so many new entrants in market). Billing, delivery were smooth.Accesorries were satisfactory.
Well the 1st Drive? Showroom was far away on the highway. Driving back home was a long drive in itself. Impressive pick up. but thats same in most of the manual transmissions. Engine doesnt rattle to full throttles at any point of time. Power steering cuts off at a speed aroung 50 kmph. But you dont need the same at high speed, unless you are not a stunt man trying to achieve some wild imagination of bond movie director.Fast cooling AC. Stable till 110-115 kmph.
Liked most: Easy manuavour, Stylish look.Powerful AC.Mileage.After all its one step ahead of 2599.
Disliked: Same interior as in other variants of Maruti(Seems maruti is cashing on reusablity).No left mirrors on LX, LXI.Dont have multi reflector head lamps.High price Diff between LXI and VXI where as add ons are not a big deal.No CD holder.Coffee case is far away. You might get killed while trying to grab your cup of coffee.
ALTO is the new face for indian middle class 1st timers. Its ideal for students who often go out of pocket money, couples not having dozens of kids(and often go on long-romantic drives), single working women, Dads who cant take up frequent visit to the service station, Yo! n trendy guys who would rather buy the base model and pump in some more bucks get it done by DC or some.Or you can simply rip off 2000 bucks and get sporty(broad white) stripes on a black ALTO. And you are back in the game with a thundorous audio inside which wudnt rattle your side windows, unlike 800. An ideal in town transport solution for the 2nd buyers having a Big SUV parked in the garage.
Definitely not an option for big families. not meant for those who prefer to over speed without any reason and eventually get killed. Guys looking for a tall head room, simply NONO. And ofcourse not for basketball players.
Bottomline: Alto is going to be the car solution for modern middle class indian. Rather a feel good over 800-(2599)
