The Gypsy is NOT a family vehicle but a TRUE 4x4 off roader(in fact the only one available here in India and no the Boleros/Safaris/CRVs are not off roaders).
Do not buy one if you plan on using it to commute 20 miles everyday unless your workplace is somewhere up in the Kumaon Hills. Ride is not at all comfortable and all your passesngers will curse you every time it runs over a pothole/bump.
However if you are a loner, like being away from humanity, love nature you want to explore it on your own terms then the Gypsy is for you. It has a pretty good pick up(power/weight ratio of 80BHP/tonne), great transmission, is very reliable, extremely tough, real fun to drive and "very" capable off the road. Nothing beats a Gypsy unless you have a Jeep Wrangler
Put on some wide radials and youre ready to take on the world:)
