Two days back I completed 20000 kms on the swift , almost 7 months from the time of purchase , its been an exciting 7 months nonethelesss.. the cars been through a lot of beating during this periods especially because of the horrible roads.. and hav also been on a couple of highway runs.. completing 20k kms has shown the cars strengths n weakness..
The car is unlike any maruti I hav ever had before n the build quality is outstanding .. there has been no rattles or squeaks which earlier marutis were prone 2 .. there is absolutely no body rattle.. n the sheet metal has held up very well.. runnin in crowded streets has lead to quite a few dents n scratches on the car.. the rear bumper held up well 2 a hit by a taxi causing the bumper 2 hav a small crack which can be fixed easily..the only noise is from the after market parcel tray that I had installed.. n also from the front doors which has a little squeaking from within .. though its not a build quality problem but for sum other reason..
The only problems that hav been faced is one of the front fog lamp going bust because of water entering it.. n one fine mornin .. the drivers door wasnt shutting .. the cause was traced to a faulty door latch.. the whole mechanism costing about rs2000 was changed for free because of it being in the warranty period.. also .. the car had developed a slight jerkiness while accelerating.. this was traced to worn out spark plugs n they were changed 4 rs 400..apart from these faults there have been no other problems whatsoever..
The swift engine has proved to be brilliant n gives very gud performance.. along with decent mileage.. the engine has opened up properly .. n its is hardly ever required to cross the 2500 rpm mark to keep the car on the boil.. its gives a mileage of about 12 in city n about 16 on the highway.. n keepin in mind that the cars weight is similar to a honda city the mileage is gud..
The car still look like a beauty and my energy levels always rise when I see my bright red swift everyday in the mornings.. the tires hav shown normal wear, though I would hav prefered a full size spare n not a space saver..
The ride and handling of the swift is brilliant n bad roads are not a cause of concern while driving the swift.. the brakes are in another league and a slight tap causes the car 2 brake strongly.. thought a slight modulation would have been better.. but anyways the brakes r very gud and coupled with the abs system give good stopping power on any surface.. the brakes r very strong because of which the cars behind usually find it difficult to stop in time.. n a couple of times many hav bumped into me for the aforsaid reason..
The refreshing interiors are very modern and the thoughtful features are very useful.. the climate control is another brilliant feature and surely makes me think why others manufacturers dont offer it..the interiors hav held up wel.. n are showing no signs of wear.. the seats are very comfy and the height adjustment feature has become addictive.. the orange interior lights too are very cool and give a refreshing feeling every time you see it..
The car has truely shown that japanese engineering is among the finest and this car has a long way to go.. and I would recommend the car to anyone interested in buyin a big small car..
