As all of you must be aware from the previous reviews, the Swift is Maruti Suzuki’s new offering in the small car segment.Maruti has come out with a new launch after a really long time..(if one discounts the Grand Vitara).
One look at the pictures of the Swift is enough to decide that the car has a young feel about it. It looks to be fast and sporty, and has a cool and sexy look about it.
Reports say that the car was unveiled as Concept S at the Paris Motor Show by Suzuki, and was treated to rave reviews. As the car was so well received in Europe (where according to an MS review it is going to be launched in May itself), one gets a feeling that it is going to score in India as well.
The key issue that remains to be seen is whether India is ready for such a car, as it is a hatchback and previous attempts at a hatchback (Palio, Getz) have bombed at the markets. However this may also reflect the quality of those cars in particular rather than the perception of the people towards hatchbacks in general.
All in all, the Swift at the moment looks like a sure shot success to me, but only time will tell the exact turnaround of events. One thing that can be more certainly said though, is that if the Swift fails, then there is no way any other hatchback will be introduced in India for a long long time. And the success of the Swift will see concentrated efforts to get more hatchbacks with more variants from all manufacturers.
