It’s been less than 2 months and Odo is already showing 5k+, second service is due this 16th and I am really excited with the car as she’s getting amazing day by day :)
Driving pleasure is increasing everyday and I am enjoying all sort of roads (good, bad, busy, empty :)
FE has been really good, took her to ghats of Konkan and she didn’t disappoint me at any point of time, FE returned was 23KMPL with 95% AC. Came by NH4 while returning. Teased some cars (Read Fiesta, Linea, Scorpio), max speed was 165 Kmph & that was achieved with ease. Car was eager to go more faster but I had no guts to go beyond as it was a night.
Getting some noise in dash board but I am sure it will be eliminated post second service. Had some problem with Tuner as well (Apline, Maruti Suzuki) but got this replaced within warranty period and Maruti Suzuki’s Dealer (Chowghule Industries ) were overwhelmed to do the honor. No other problem (fingers crossed) faced so far & I am enjoying the car.

This is my first review about any product.
I purchased Maruti Swift Vdi on 17th Oct’10 and within a month Odometer is already showing 2100+ kms. The riding comfort and user satisfaction is increasing day-by-day. I got this car within a month, but did not got a single ruppe discount or gift, as we all know how much demand this car has!! They should have given, but overall its worth a buy even without a discount.
Since I am using this car for less than a month, I am not writing about some areas which I will write later in my updates time-to-time.
First I will cover cons because there are hardly any in terms of car’s performance.
Cons: Lack of some features, Waiting period, Small tyres, Poor visibility through rear windshield, Door/Dashboard noise.
1. Lack of some features: Though I would not say it’s a highly priced hatchback, however, to make my point clearer, I would say, it’s a package with high price & lack of “must have” features. Viz. Tilt steering, height adjustable driver’s seat, rear wiper, rear washer, rear demister & defogger. Not all but at least some of these features should be there in a car priced 6Lacs.
2. Waiting Period: Since Maruti-Suzuki is selling this hot cake, this is something which making many swift buyers to change their minds and go for another car. I am not sure if the delay is artificial, but I think a customer oriented brand like Maruti-Suzuki would not make any artificial delay. However, 4 -5 months waiting period is an ache & no one would happily wait for it.
3. Small tyre: This is something Maruti needs to be look at seriously, they should at least provide Zxi tyres for a higher diesel version. Alloy wheels would be a plus plus.
- Visibility: being a fat-boy design, very poor visibility through rear windshield, especially when you are reversing you car, so I would suggest to install reverse parking sensor/camera as soon as you get your car.
5. Door/Dashboard noise: Rattling noise started coming through one of the door & dashboard, but that was eliminated on the first service by Maruti.
And here comes the endless list Pros
Pros: Stunning looks, Performance, Engine, Turbo charger, Good A/C, Handling, Fuel economy, Maruti Service Network.
1. Stunning looks: No one can beat swift in its looks, awesome would be an understatement. Even after 10 lakhs of swift on road, it still makes its presence felt all over & still a head turner & other car owner’s envy.
2. Performance: butter on knife, Gear shift is so smooth that you won’t even realize that you’ve chaged gear of car with diesel heart!! Though reverse gear is bit hard, but it will get smooth with time (at least that is what Maruti Service adviser told me), suspension was bit hard but accurate tyre pressure solved that problem. EPS is highly responsive, you will get to know when driving through city. Braking is excellent, though I have not tried hardcore breaking test, but they came to my rescue whenever I wanted to tame this mean machine. You just have to touch brake pedal & car is under your command again.
3. Engine: Well, Do I have to tell anything about this award winning engine from Fiat & excellent fine tuning by Maruti Suzuki? Its fantastic & very responsive. Engine is so silent that sometimes its difficult to know if engine is running or off, especially when you are on a traffic signal. I had tried to start engine when it was already running. And here come the best part; TURBO CHARGERRRRRR, which I have covered in next point. This car has got enormous power that overtaking is very east, just time it and Swift will not let you down.
4. Turbo Charger: This is something which makes Swift different from other cars using same engine, I have test driven Vista Quadrajet drivetech4 & Swift, and frankly, Vista stands nowhere close to swift in this regard. Once the turbo kicks, this car flies, literally!!! Swift changes its character drastically once the turbo kicks & she’s ready to beat anything that comes her way, and if you are F1 lover, listen the sound that this car makes when turbo kicks; whrooooommmmmm – Pure sound to ears.
5. Good A/C: A/C is very effective and take 2-3 minutes to chill that car, since its winter here in Pune, I may not be able to judge this completely but I am sure the result would be same even in Summer. But this is something which I can comment only after testing in summer.
- Handling: Superb!! Large wheels of this car gives extra confidence while cornering the vehicle and also while travelling through Pune roads where there is less road, more patholes :P.
7. Fuel economy: Calculated by Tank full to Tank full method, With AC (100% of time ) : City: 17 Highway 18, Without A/C (20-30% of time AC was on) 18 City 19 Highway. Started rising post first service but this is one more area which I would not comment on, since its just 2100 kms & less than a month.
8. Maruti Service Network: I brought my car from Chowghule Maruti, Pune & I am highly satisfied with this dealer. Got my car delivered on time without any issues. Also, got confirmation call from them, keeps getting reminder SMS from them about due services. And got one booklet along with car having information about all service stations of Maruti across India.
I am extremely happy with the car & enjoying for a daily commute covering around 90 kms per day.
So go for a car if you have little extra money with you (budget approx 6 lacs which is a bit more for a hatchback, but less as compared to Polo & Fabia which comes with a 3 cylinder engine which I personally didn’t liked) and if you are fan of this car.
