Welcome to my review, actually preview of this graceful beauty, Swift...A too long one but I couldn’t stop writing, so read at your own risk...Nothing Technical, but just what I felt...
Well, my need for new car began in April-May somewhere. We are a small family, me, my wife and my 5 year kid n last year in Oct’05 we purchased second hand Maruti 800...our first car. Well, we never consulted with experts so we got a flood affected car (Various Garagewallas)...
I m in portfolio management n my wife is fashion designer, garment exports, both high pressure jobs n purpose of car was to get those well deserved weekends n sometimes 3-4-5 days outings. But our old car, never proved to be reliable on runs beyond couple of hours...Infact we used to go out as per timings of our garagewallah, a very reliable gentleman who towed my old betsy thrice at nominal charge...
So our hunt began, Price range was anywhere between 2.5 lac to 5lac. Indica for obvious Taxi Wallah n Call Centrewallah reason was Out..Also my sweetie thinks that shopkeepers wont think her prestigious customer...
So very obvious choice of Alto, WagonR & Santro was left.
Alto I had driven in July, infact my Saali’s Husband (Dont know who is he to me in English) purchased Alto after we went to their home in Keral for a 2 week picnic...He dint knew driving and joined classes after car was delievered, so only driver was me. Lovely car, specially after 800, any car feels good ^o^...
Usual underpowered with AC on etc, etc but overall lovely car...We 6 adults n 2 kids roamed in it for a week..Ofcourse uncomfortably in n around Kannur...Still drove well with occational feel of lack of power while overtaking n usual maruti 5th gear issues as car was not yet Free...
We discarded alto cos of space n small rear seats which are less convenient for 3.
We knew what it is to be stranded on highways with family, so Santro was out cos lack of Service Network despite of heavy discount.
WagonR Duo was launched in August (Correct hain na?), that was when we finally had decided to sell off our oldie n go for Maruti WagonR, LPG or non-LPG. So, one fine day we went to Navneet Motors in Thane with WagonR in mind. In complete contrast to my mis-conception about Indian Maruti Dealers, the service at Navneet Motors was Excellent. We were attended by an Executive Ms.Roopali, she was keen to explain features of WagonR n pro-actively provided information of other cars in stable...Alto, Swift, Non-Lpg WagonR..WagonR Duo’s delievery was uncertain at that time. We got confused, so we promised latter dated decision to Navneet n came back home. After furious research, specially through reviews on mouthshut, we zeroed on WagonR LXI - Non lpg. Basically even in 5 years our running wont exceed 30k so we hardly will save anything on lpg-petrol difference. Nearest lpg pump is 20km from my home...also boot space is affected a lot.
We decided WagonR LXI n on 19th Nov, Sunday we went to Navneet Motors agn. Wife was stil keen on Swift as it was bit prestigious n extremely beautiful car than WagonR As I m a good hubby with no power to refuse my beautiful wife, I promised that we will test ride both cars.
Sunday being off, Navneet Motors had less staff, another executive Mr.Neerav attended us, answered our queries very efficiently. Prices, loan structures were discussed...Then we test rode WagonR, a beauty n quite smooth ride n though we r thin, I noticed that elbow room was low n even bench back seat seemed smaller than 800, maybe height or may be my misjudgment...Overall ride was smooth n view from height was inspiring confidence, though tyres seemed small No offence to existing WagonR Owners, car seemed fragile, I cant explain how but I wrote cos I felt it. But I was still satisfied n willing to buy at that time.
Then we sat in Swift VXI Demo car, Power windows was impressive n my kid finalized that car the instant he saw that with touch of button window closes n opens. Interiors as u know were roomy from front seats, black all over with matching seats were effective n I felt like we came some spaceship. I started car n engine at neutral was extremely silent, Switched on AC after blowing out hot air first, cooling was effective n sufficient in heat at 2pm. View through rear windshields was limited n due to their design n positioning view was not good, however outer rear view mirrors were excellent. I wanted to test car in 1st n 2nd gear top speeds n pickups in those gears, I dint note actual speeds but whatever they were, they were good as road was passing fast behind us. Also we were on a steep climbing road...once we reached flat road, I put car in 3rd gear n felt that nothing happened apart from pressing accelletor (Spelling galat hain?)..there was marginal increase in speed...But after 60kmph, 4th n at around 70kmph 5th gear was impressive...Went to 110kmph with ease...Then we u-turned n came back to dealer n alighted from Swift...
Now later, after getting out, me who had finalized WagonR dint want to even look at it, my wife who was smart enough to stress in future that this was my choice re-confirmed that she likes WagonR too n will take Swift only if I want it...Smart Girl, always...
This was it, I wanted Swift, in Hot Red Color...As running was not very high, average was no bar…We finalized it there itself.
Same day we submitted documents n in 2 days, by Tuesday evening our loan was sanctioned..
