Although the swift has beaten all records and has been voted COTY 2006, the fact remains that it is a much scaled down version from that of the European market. I write this review from the UK and know first hand that the european car is absolutely fantastic. Mind I do not drive a Swift but have sat in a friend’s. There is the missing multifunction steering wheel, the seats are totally different, there is no CD player..that too in a pricey car as this (the ZXi varient)..agreed the car does 0-100 in 12.5 seconds and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds..but we are missing a few important points..when the european car reviewers talk about 0-60 they are talking in miles..and again can you realistically do 60 in the city. In car entertainment is a big bonus anyday..especially if one spends most of the day stopped at red-lights. Pre-fitted CD players as in the European version are just too good..even the australian and NZ version have these as standard. And the build, well it is a bit too early.
It is upto the Indian market and the customer to take the fight to the door as they say..a hike in price of upto 50-60000 with a classier build and better interiors, MFsteering wheel and an in-built CD player is, I feel not too much of an ask. I of course mean all this for the top of the range varient, so people can have the choice to go for the less pricey model. If only consumer satisfaction was as well thought off as the western world, we could call ourselves truly developed.
